Synopsis:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author
Nora Roberts, comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we
learn to cherish, and the people we long to love…
With
indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From
her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush
forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.
Ireland.
County
Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through
generations—and where her destiny awaits.
Iona
arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly
optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the
luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna
and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home
and their lives.
When
Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath.
Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy
weaknesses all in one big, bold package.
Iona
realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she
wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as
it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must
be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other
to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…
My
Thoughts:
I have always been a huge fan of Nora
Roberts trilogies, especially the mystical, supernatural ones. When I found she
had started a trilogy about witches, I had to read it. Nora Roberts always has
the perfect mix of suspense, action, mystery and romance. Not being a hug fan
of too much mushy love stuff, I enjoy Nora Roberts’ writing because she really
seems to know how to balance it out and not overdo it.
Dark Witch is an amazing story. I
identified so much with our protagonist. I always say I left my heart in
Scotland when we travelled there and was disappointed that I did not get to
spend time in Ireland. Our protagonist found herself there, as well as her
family, when she sold everything and moved there. I just want make my life
there. Iona (how cool is that for a name!) finds her inner power, her magic. (I
am still searching for mine; maybe I will find it in Ireland!)
As always, the storyline was very well
written, with lots of adventure and action. Nora’s perfect mix of blood feuds,
old magic, mystery and romance leaves you spellbound and wanting more.
The characters are Very well defined,
as always. While I would have a very hard time picking my favorites, I love
Brenna and Fin. They seem to complement each other, to fit perfectly, even with
their love-hate relationship and I very much hope to read their story very
soon. Iona and Boyle are so cute together. They seemed to come together
perfectly, as if created in magic and between Alastair and Boyle, Iona will
always have a fierce protector nearby. I loved that the horses added to the
story and the environments as I have worked as a stable hand in a boarding
facility, a guide on trail rides, and at a day camp where I got to teach little
kids horse “etiquette” and how to ride.
Dark Witch was to me a truly great
story that I will read again and again. I will definitely recommend it to
readers of fantasy, paranormal, and romance.
Thanks for joining me with my first review on Becca's Book Affair. I hope you enjoyed it and helps you decide whether to go out and grab a copy of Nora Roberts' Dark Witch.
