Ashes in the Sky (Fire in the Woods #2) by Jennifer M. Eaton
Publication Date: March 1, 2016
Publisher: Month9Books

After inadvertently saving the world, eighteen-year-old Jessica Martinez is ready to put adventure behind her and settle back into the familiar routine of high school.

Though when she’s offered an opportunity to photograph the inside of an alien space ship, Jess jumps at the chance. After all, she’d be crazy to turn something like that down, right?

Spending time with David on the ship has definite advantages and the two seem to pick up right where they left off. But when Jess discovers a plot to sabotage David’s efforts to establish a new home for his people on another planet, neither David’s advanced tech nor Jess’s smarts will be able to save them.

ASHES IN THE SKY is an action-packed, romantic Sci Fi adventure that will leave readers screaming for more.

Jennifer M. Eaton hails from the eastern shore of the North American Continent on planet Earth. Yes, regrettably, she is human, but please don’t hold that against her. While not traipsing through the galaxy looking for specimens for her space moth collection, she lives with her wonderfully supportive husband and three energetic offspring. (And a poodle who runs the spaceport when she’s not around.)

During infrequent excursions to her home planet of Earth, Jennifer enjoys long hikes in the woods, bicycling, swimming, snorkeling, and snuggling up by the fire with a great book; but great adventures are always a short shuttle ride away.
Who knows where we’ll end up next?

My Thoughts:

The Cover: Even prettier than that of Fire in the Woods, Book 1 in this series, Ashes in the Sky shows the silhouette of a man against a backdrop of trees and bright green light. This cover peaked my interest just as much as the first one.

The Plot:  Ashes in the Sky picks up a couple months after Jessica and David save the human race from extermination. David has gone on to terra form Mars while Jessica is a celebrity just trying to get back to normal and stay out of the news. That is until she gets invited on board to photograph the aliens' spaceship. That's where things start to get complicated, kids.
I was very impressed with the amazing plot line of this book. It took off very quickly and didn't slow down until the end. I loved learning more about the aliens and the ways they lived, but Jessica and David's adventure was filled with intrigue and even more heart stopping moments. A new planet and new scary and wonderful species mixed in with gunfights and steamy romance round out this fantastic return to Jessica and David's story.

The Characters: As in our first book, our characters were just as awesome. Jessica was a bit more sure of herself and I liked David a heck of a lot more this time around. There were a lot of new characters and I was never sure who was an friend or foe. But all were well developed and fit into the story line nicely.

Is it Worth Reading?:  Yes! Ashes in the Sky was an intense return to a great story. I loved exploring the new planet with Jessica and even though I am terrified of spiders, her new creepy friend grew on me. I look forward the another book in the out of this world series, recommend it to readers of YA sci-fi, drama and romance and give it 4 out of 5 crossbows.
