Even my 12 year old secretly listened when my daughter and I would snuggle on the couch, reading alouded to each other. The characters are entertaining and relate-able, while the story moves along at a good pace that held everyone's interest. Deep by Kylie Scott

Deep (Stage Dive, #4)Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2015
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Format: Paperback              Pages: 288
Series: Stage Dive #4
Source: Kristen @ My Bookish Fairytale

Goodreads Synopsis:

Don't miss a beat with the fourth and final novel in theUSA Today bestselling Stage Dive series from Kylie Scott.
Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins' ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben's the only man she's ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn't looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.
Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She's his best friend's little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he's not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he's always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible... but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

My Thoughts:

Deep is an amazing story of love, lust, and learning to trust. While Deep is not my favorite of the four, it was still a thrill ride of a plot. I enjoyed every quirky moment, every laugh, every tense word. Again, another book that I literally devoured.
The characters were very well written and all very enjoyable. I loved our main characters, although they are not my favorite of the series. I also loved that throughout the books, our Stage Dive group has stayed the same. The family ties get stronger in each book and while this was Ben and Lizzy's book, it was just as much Mal and Anne's, Jimmy and Lena's, Evelyn and David's, because they are a family and are there for each other through it all. Sometimes, in moments they don't necessarily want to share!
While I am saddened that it seems the Stage Dive adventure has come to an end, I enjoyed every moment of the ride. Kylie Scott is a fantastic author, who knows how to pull you in and take you along for the ride. I highly recommend the entire Stage Dive series and give it five out of five crossbows.

Summer of the Oak Moon by Laura Templeton

Summer Of The Oak Moon
Genre: Romance, Drama
Release Date: May 5, 2015
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: ebook                     Pages: 300
Source: Publisher

Goodreads Synopsis:

Rejected by the exclusive women’s college she has her heart set on, Tess Seibert dreads the hot, aimless summer ahead. But when a chance encounter with a snake introduces her to Jacob Lane, a black college student home on his summer break, a relationship blooms that challenges the prejudices of her small, north Florida town.

When Jacob confesses that Tess’s uncle is trying to steal his family’s land, Tess comes face to face with the hatred that simmers just below the surface of the bay and marshes she’s loved since birth. With the help of her mentor Lulu, an herbal healer, Tess pieces together clues to the mysterious disappearance of Jacob’s father twenty-two years earlier and uncovers family secrets that shatter her connection to the land she loves.

Tess and Jacob’s bond puts them both in peril, and discontent eventually erupts into violence. Tess is forced to make a decision. Can she right old wrongs and salvage their love? Or will prejudice and hatred kill any chance she and Jacob might have had?

My Thoughts:

The Cover: I loved the cover of Summer of the Oak Moon. It was the first thing that attracted me to the book. Beautiful glowing butterflies are escaping a jar into a dark night. This cover reminded me of long hot summer nights and made me want to read the book even more.

The Plot:  This story was absolutely amazing. What started out as a forbidden love type of story became something else entirely. A story about prejudice and menace, I could not put it down. The story line and plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat. And when I was trying to figure out how our fantastic storyteller would end things, I was left breathless and horrified that humans could be this way to each other. Not for the weak of heart, Summer of the Oak Moon is a heart stopping story that I could not put down.

Characters: The characters from this story are all very well written with strengths, weaknesses and flaws that make them come to life. I loved our young, innocent protagonists, trying to find their way in a world that not only frowned on their friendship (forget love) but would harm them physically because of it. Our villains were despicable, making me cringe.

Is it Worth Reading?:  Oh yes, while Summer of the Oak Moon was definitely not what I expected, I feel that it is far better. It was a very moving and thought provoking story that I am sure I will read again. I highly recommend Summer of the Oak Moon and give it four out of five crossbows.

The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence by Stan Lee & Stuart Moore

The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence (Zodiac, #1)
Art by: Andie Tong
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy, Superheroes, Adventure, Mythology
Release Date:  January 27, 2015
Publisher: Disney Press
Format: Paperback            Pages: 480
Series: Zodiac #1
Source: Kristen @ My Bookish Fairytale

Goodreads Synopsis:

Stan Lee presents a brand new, magical, super-powered adventure!

When twelve magical superpowers are unleashed on the world, a Chinese-America teenager named Steven will be thrown into the middle of an epic global chase. He'll have to master strange powers, outrun super-powered mercenaries, and unlock the mysterious powers of the Zodiac.

My Thoughts:

The Cover: The cover for the ARC literally dipicts the Chinese Zodiac and while I think it was cool hand drawn by the awesome and very talented Andie Tong (whose amazing art is throughout the book) I hope the published copy has a cover with just a little more kick!!

The Plot:  It has been awhile since I have been able to finish a book in under 48 hour. The storyline to Zodiac is absolutely mind blowing. I totally devoured every delicious word, every edge of your seat fight scene, every angsty, do I have what it takes moment of every page. This story was red velvet cupcake for my brain!!

Characters:  Stan Lee and Stuart Moore have created some pretty awesome characters. They all come from their own trials and tribulations, but they all must go through their own growth and development, which was pretty cool to read. Anyone familiar with Stan Lee's writing will recognize his formula for protagonists—angsty and always second guessing themselves. I think that is why I love Steven so much. You just want to shake him and say: “Dude, you kickass. Now get out there and save the day!” I also loved the cocky attitude of the Ram.

Is it Worth Reading?:  Ah hell, I mean heck yes!! Devour it my friends! Let the words of the comic superhero masters feed your soul! Ok, enough fangirling. Honestly, readers of will enjoy every moment of this book. I highly recommend Convergence, cannot wait for the next morsel of the story, and give it five out of five crossbows.

Praefatio by Georgia McBride

Praefatio (Praefatio, #1)Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Paranormal, Angels, Demons
Release Date: May 21, 2013
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC
Format: ebook              Pages: 342
Series: Praefatio
Source: Publisher

Goodreads Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Grace Ann Miller is no ordinary runaway...

After having been missing for weeks, Grace is found on the estate of international rock star Gavin Vault, half-dressed and yelling for help. Over the course of twenty-four hours Grace holds an entire police force captive with incredulous tales of angels, demons, and war; intent on saving Gavin from lockup and her family from worry over her safety.

Authorities believe that Grace is ill, suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, the victim of assault and a severely fractured mind. Undeterred, Grace reveals the secret existence of dark angels on earth, an ancient prophecy and a wretched curse steeped in Biblical myth. Grace’s claims set into motion an ages-old war, resulting in blood, death and the loss of everything that matters. But are these the delusions of an immensely sick girl, or could Grace’s story actually be true?

Praefatio is Grace’s account of weeks on the run, falling in love and losing everything but her faith. When it’s sister against brother, light versus darkness, corrupt police officers, eager doctors and accusing journalists, against one girl with nothing but her word as proof: who do you believe?
“With Praefatio, Georgia McBride proves that you can take any genre to a higher level. This is teen fantasy at its most entertaining, most heartbreaking, most compelling. Highly recommended.” –Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author.

My Thoughts:

The Cover: The cover for Praefatio is absolutely enticing. Our protagonists stands with sexy rocky Gavin Vault. But Gavin has wings? The cover for Praefatio definitely attracted my attention. And I had to look up the pronunciation of Praefatio.

The Plot:  The storyline to Praefatio was well-crafted, with some amazingly placed bombshells. While I occasionally had a little difficulty understanding and keeping the angel food chain in order. I really did find that the story moved along at a great pace.

Characters:  The characters were all kick ass and relatable. Some were easily placed for their part in the story; others seem to have a hidden agenda. I didn't particularly have a favorite, maybe Michael for his never-ending patience with our protagonist like she was an irritable toddler that he was trying not to swat on the rear.

Is it Worth Reading?: Definitely! While not my next dying to read series, I definitely loved the angel and demons concepts. The worlds and the ways of both were fascinating. I do look forward to the next book and give Praefatio four out of five crossbows.

Scarlett Undercover by Jennifer Latham

Scarlett UndercoverGenre: YA Contemporary, Mystery, Paranormal, Thriller
Release Date: May 19, 2015
Publisher: Little Brown
Format: Paperback     Pages: 320
Source: Publisher

Goodreads Synopsis:

A voice-driven mystery perfect for fans of Veronica Mars.
Meet Scarlett, a smart, sarcastic, kick-butt, Muslim American heroine, ready to take on crime in her hometown of Las Almas. When a new case finds the private eye caught up in a centuries-old battle of evil genies and ancient curses, Scarlett discovers that her own family secrets may have more to do with the situation than she thinks -- and that cracking the case could lead to solving her father's murder.
Jennifer Latham delivers a compelling story and a character to remember in this one-of-a-kind debut novel.

My Thoughts:

The Cover: The cover for this story is mysterious. Our protagonist looks over her shoulder at us from the dark street. She has a cocky, don't mess with me smile. I like the cover of Scarlett Undercover and definitely picked this book because of it.

The Plot:  This story rocks! While being 100% set in the YA genre, it had a great story line with enough action and drama to keep a mature audience on the edge of their seats and guessing. I whipped through this book in less than 48 hours, racing to solve the mystery.

Characters:  All our characters were very well written with lots of personality and flaws of their own. Scarlett and Decker were by far the cutest couple. I loved how they would do just about anything for each other. I also enjoyed Scarlett's thinking as she worked to solve the mystery and save the your children involved. I also loved Gemma. She tried really hard to by the tough girl, who could look after herself.

Is it Worth Reading?: Yes!! I really enjoyed reading this book, the mystery was a tough one that kept me wondering who was going to be the big baddie. I hope there will be more Scarlett books to come, but in the meantime I highly recommend Scarlett undercover and give it five out of five crossbows.
